Quintet & Trio Rules:
***TRIOS: Trios have the same rule set as a quintet except for three (3) competitors on a team versus five (5) for a quintet, hence the word TRIO's.

TEAMS: 4 - 8
TTEAM MEMBERS: 5 team members

MIN. TO COMPETE: 5 team members

TEAM WEIGHTS:

Gender Age Weight
Male 18+ Adult 900lbs
Female 18+ Adult 700lbs

QUINTET IN MATCH RULES:
-
To determine which Quintet teams to compete against, we will have a live stream for the comentators to draw team names a week before the event to determine whom they face first.
-
Teams submit a line-up on the day of the event and for each match after that. Teams must follow the order, or the out-of-order competitor will be disqualified (DQ) for that match. (All lineups are released and announced before each match).
-
The first two competitors will try submitting one another during the team match, and whoever submits their opponent first stays in and takes on the next opponent from the other team. The winner stays in until he/she clears the other teams competitors or gets submitted. Each new opponent is a new 4 - 7 minute round of sub only. If both competitors cannot submit one another, they both lose that round, and it goes to the next two competitors from each team, except if it is the last two competitors on the team, then it goes to a tiebreaker mentioned in section 4 of the rules. For a team to win, there must be one competitor from that team that has not been submitted or lost their round.
-
If a team wins its Quintet match and suffers an injury, it can continue to compete with the number of non-injured competitors. There are no alternates, and a team can continue to compete without injured competitors; however, the team must show up on the day of the event with five (5) competitors or be DQ’d as a team. Replacements are up to the team and coaches prior to the day of the event.
-
The last team standing with a minimum of 1 competitor wins. The idea is to submit everyone on the other team to win. If there is a tie, Overtime (OT) will be warranted. When there is a tie, going into the last match of the Quintet, the last two competitors will go through the normal 4-minute sub-only match to determine a winner, and if there is no submission or disqualification, then those two competitors will not stop, and an additional 4-minute match with based solely on the NGA point system (https://www.nga-bjj.com/division#quintet-points) under "NGA Tournament" with no breaks until a winner is determined with points only, no advantages. If it is still tied, there will be a 1-minute first-to-score round based on NGA rule set, and then head ref will consult with two other secondary refs to determine a winner if no one was able to score a point during the first-to-score round. Keep in mind, ref's decisions shall be based only on the last two for each team doing the 8-minute, first-to-score rounds. Aggressions, advancing position, and legit submission attempts are what the refs are looking for in their decision.

SUBMISSIONS:
-
Referees during the 4-minute sub-only rounds ensure no competitor uses illegal moves such as fishhooks, punches, slaps, slamming, pulling hair, eye gouging, groin grabs or strikes, etc. All BJJ submissions and moves are granted except those mentioned for illegal moves for adults only. Kids and juveniles shall follow the submission rules at https://www.nga-bjj.com/rules. The coaches, parents, and kids are responsible for knowing what submissions they can use to submit. The competitor shall be disqualified if any violation is present, with no exceptions!
-
Violating any illegal moves or submissions mentioned will result in a warning, penalty, and/or disqualification (DQ). No Quintet can end on a penalty, and if it is your last competitor, the other team can choose whatever BJJ position they want to start the round.

Takedown Tourney Rules:
The NGA Takedown Tournament rules are relatively simple and to the point. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to email us at info@nga-bjj.com. Someone will respond within 12 hours or less.

FORMAT: Best of three for two competitors or Brackets with double-elimination for three or more competitors with 3rd and 4th place finishers.

SCORING: It is a best-out-of-3 takedown match, with one round lasting three minutes. The clock will not stop unless there is an injury. If there is no clear winner, it goes to a one-minute overtime, and the First takedown wins. The referee will decide based on aggression and legitimate shots if there is no winner. A takedown is based on the referee’s discretion and is final.
A takedown is defined as someone who is being takedown and their pelvis, hips, or butt touch the mat or if the person being taken down goes to the quadpod position with one knee, elbow, or hand on the mat, assuming the opponent holds the takedown for 3 seconds whether it’s a throw or standard takedown.

STALLING: A stalling competitor is defined as one who is not aggressive, does not attempt a legitimate shot or takedown, and is constantly being pushed out of bounds.

DIVISIONS: Beginner (0 – 6 months or less), Intermediate (6 months to less than 2 years), and Advanced (2+ years or more)

AGE GROUPS: -6 years old, 6+ to -8 years old, 8+ to -10 years old (all age groups are boys and girls combined)

This method is popular because it discourages "weight cutting" in young athletes.”

ATTIRE: We recommend singlets or rashguards. If wearing loose shirts or shorts, we ask that the shorts have no pockets and be tied with string. Wrestling shoes, Bare feet, taekwondo, or Judo slippers/shoes are all legal. Anything else is illegal.
